Matthew Booth has been named as Ajax Cape Town’s Player of the Year, with the defender having been honoured at the club’s annual end of season awards ceremony held in Cape Town on Sunday.
Ajax CEO, George Comitis, presented Booth with the award, with the defender having played a pivotal role in helping the team salvage their PSL status. The veteran was key in the team’s rearguard, having missed only seven league outings all season.
Toriq Losper was named as the Rookie of the Year, while the Sportsman of the Year award went to Thulani Hlatshwayo.
Mabhuti Khenyeza, who only joined the team during the January transfer window, finished the season as the club’s top goal scorer, with team manager, Max Grunewald, being the recipient of the Urban Warrior of the Year award.
Khenyeza’s goals were vital to the team’s immediate future in the PSL, having netted five goals in the team’s last four fixtures, including a goal against PSL champions, Kaizer Chiefs, in the recent 3-1 win.
