Bloemfontein Celtic players are threatening to go on strike as another way for them to show their displeasure over alleged unpaid salaries.

For some time now, there have been different reports of unhappiness from Celtic players as a result of the club's financial woes which have evidently caused tensions in the camp.

During the course of last season, there has been protest action from Celtic players who at times have refused to train as their way of demanding payment from the club.

Club boss, Max Tshabalala has repeatedly confirmed on various platforms that he has been struggling to run the club, which has resulted in him putting it up for sale, although there has been no official confirmation as yet of anyone buying Siwelele's PSL status from him.

Following the latest meeting held at the club on Tuesday this week with management, technical team and players, it had been agreed that the players would be paid their outstanding salaries yesterday (Wednesday), according to insiders at the Mangaung club.

However, it has been confirmed to the Siya crew from sources inside the Celtic camp that the players have been yet to receive their salaries.

“The players at Bloemfontein Celtic haven’t yet been paid their salaries for last month. The situation is bad,” confirmed a source.

Speaking to the Siya crew on condition of anonymity, one of the senior players at Celtic added, “We haven’t been paid our salaries for the past month. How can we play and perform to the best of our abilities when the club hasn’t paid us our salaries? We had a meeting with the club on Tuesday and what the chairman has been saying is that he doesn’t have money. The entire team was in that meeting. All the players, Steve (Komphela) and his technical team were in that meeting. The chairman told us that the meeting was called because he wanted to sort out the issue of outstanding salaries. Normally we are getting paid on the 28th day of the month but we still haven’t received our salaries up to this day.”

In March this year before one of the important matches, Celtic players refused to train, with the club confirming at the time that their refusal was ‘due to a misunderstanding about their respective signing-on fees’.

The action of the players led to an apology by the club to the PSL, sponsors and football supporters. A senior player at Celtic has told the Siya crew that there are talks among his teammates about another possible strike if the situation regarding their salaries is not resolved on time.

Komphela and his team are set to get their 2018/19 Absa Premiership campaign underway with a home match against Chippa United at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday.
