Orlando Pirates host Bloemfontein Celtic in tonight’s PSL clash scheduled to be played at the Orlando Stadium.
The Buccaneers have a chance to keep up the pressure on current log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who are one point clear of the Soweto giants having played one game less.
As the title race heats up between on what has effectively become a two-horse race for the league title, Pirates will have to be wary of Celtic who in recent seasons have gained the reputation of being a hoodoo team for the Buccaneers.
In their previous encounter, it was former Phunya Sele Sele midfielder Musa Nytama who scored the solitary goal against his former side to help Pirates to a 1-0 victory.
However, in recent years the side from the Free State has often spoiled the party for the Ghost with a string of victories against the Soweto giants in their own backyard.
In the 2016/17 season, Celtic managed a 2-1 victory against their more illustrious opponents contributing to Pirates’ eleventh place finish on the league table. In the season before that Celtic also managed to surprise Pirates with a 1-0 victory.
This was the case back in the 2014/15 season when Phunya Sele Sele once again stunned the Bucs with a 1-0 victory after having won their second encounter 3-2 against Pirates in the 2013/14 season.
What may be alarming to the Bucs faithful is that in the previous 10 league encounters between these two sides, both Celtic have edged Pirates with four league wins as compared to the Bucs’ three wins.
The match between Pirates and Celtic is scheduled to be played tonight at the Orlando Stadium with the fixture starting at 19h30.
