With Swallows’ star defender Njabulo Ngcobo the subject of interest from the country’s 'Big Three', a former teammate, who was in a similar position a few years ago, has offered some key advice to ‘Road Block’ on his next destination.
As reported by the Siya crew, Ngcobo has been identified as a key target for Kaizer Chiefs who are expected to overhaul their ailing squad at the end of the current season.
His team Swallows, are open to losing the Folweni-born star but they have ensured that they do not lose him on a free, after they exercised the three-year option on his deal with the club.
Back in 2016, Ngcobo’s former Uthongathi FC teammate Cheslyn Jampies was in a similar position when he was on the radar of both Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, following a stellar season with Jomo Cosmos. However, the left back snubbed both Soweto giants and opted to join Bloemfontein Celtic instead.
Safe to say things had not panned out the way he had hoped at the Manguang-based outfit and he parted ways with the club just months after joining them.
Now, with Ngcobo’s future the subject of hot debate, he has received some valuable advice from Jampies, who is currently on the books of Baroka FC.
“To be honest with you Njabulo is a very close friend of mine. He’s like my brother, we’ve been soldiers together since a long time ago,” Jampies told the Siya crew.
“We always had this talk where I motivated him and told him that his breakthrough is going to come. He reminded me of the way I was, 'When is my break coming? I’m working hard and things like that'. I told him your break is gonna come and eventually his break came.
“The only advice I can give him is to go with his heart. Don’t look at the money, look at your type of football, what team will you fit into, where will you fit in as a regular. How does the coach intend to use you? It doesn’t matter what amount of money you earn, if you are not happy as a player, your football will die just where you are.
“He’s a big man, he must make a decision that will leave him with no regrets.”
