The 2016/17 season’s PSL champions, Bidvest Wits, are prepared to release Jabulani Shongwe to an interested club for the player to revive his football career.
Shongwe endured a difficult season with zero league appearances under Coach Gavin Hunt, during Wits’ title-winning campaign. As previously reported in Soccer Laduma, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have both been interested in the former Mamelodi Sundowns player for some time.
The Students have an option on the midfielder’s contract, as Shongwe’s current deal with Wits is set to expire in June. According to his representative, Jazzman Mahlakgane, the Braamfontein outfit is willing to discuss the 27-year-old player’s exit with interested clubs.
“We met with the club yesterday (Wednesday) and what they have done was to assure me that they will not renew or exercise their option on the player’s contract for the coming season.
“However, they will be waiting for teams that are interested in the player to talk to them. But they are prepared to release him so that he can go and play football. He hasn’t had much action at the club. They won’t let him down by keeping him in the team. I’m very happy with that because ‘Jafefe’ will do well in any team,” said Mahlakgane.
