Wits & Shongwe Reject Moves Elsewhere
Bidvest Wits’ CEO, Jose Ferreira, says that both the club and Jabu Shongwe himself have rejected moves away from Wits, however, is confident that the player will be able to move on.
Shongwe has been the subject of speculation for several weeks now after it became clear that he wasn’t in Gavin Hunt’s plans for the new season, with a number of clubs, including Orlando Pirates and Baroka believed to be eager in trying to bring him on board.
The 27-year-old is now into the last year of his contract with the Clever Boys, and Ferreira thinks that a transfer will arise for the midfield man before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.
Ferreira told the media, “Jabulani Shongwe is in his last year with us. We gave and his agent an undertaking last season that if a good opportunity does come around then we could work something out.
“There have been some informal enquiries around Jabu Shongwe but nothing of any significance at this stage, but we’ll afford him that opportunity if something comes our way that is good for him.
“We’ve had a few offers, some of which didn’t interest us and some of which didn’t interest the player, but we’ll see. We have lots of time, and I’m sure by the 31st of August something will happen. If nothing happens then, of course, he’ll be incorporated into the squad.”
