The Clever Boys clinched the league title earlier this month with a victory over Polokwane City, and while a final day loss to the Amakhosi will have left a bitter taste in Gavin Hunt’s mouth, ultimately it didn’t mean anything for their position.
Two years ago the boot was on the other foot as Wits welcomed Chiefs onto the field with a Guard of Honour as Stuart Baxter's side won the Absa Premiership, and the new champions will be pleased to have turned the tables around.
Former Chiefs player, Siboniso Gaxa, and ex-trialist, James Keene, will have especially enjoyed the Guard of Honour from the Glamour Boys, however it was ultimately Steve Komphela’s side that were successful on the day.
Hunt and his players, however, were the ones celebrating at the final whistle, with the 2016/17 champions being handed their first league trophy at the venue of the 2010 World Cup final.
The club’s celebrations continued in the changing rooms after the game, with the players enjoying their second triumph of the season following their MTN8 win back in October.
