Bidvest Wits will welcome Mamelodi Sundowns to the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday, November 21 and Soccer Laduma takes a look at which players could likely be a threat on the day.
The Absa Premiership action will resume this week and after securing a spot in the final of the Telkom Knockout competition, Wits will be eager to continue their winning momentum when they host the Tshwane giants tomorrow.
The Clever Boys claimed a 1-0 win over Sundowns in their most recent meeting in the 2016/17 Absa Premiership campaign, with Head Coach Gavin Hunt making several changes to his squad since then.
One of Wits’ new additions to the squad, Amr Gamal has been in stellar form despite the team’s disappointing results and the Siya crew takes a look at three of the club's top performers who could threaten the Sundowns’ side.
Here are Wits’ top performers:
Gamal has scored five goals in all competitions for the Clever Boys so far this season, with three of his goals coming in crucial Telkom Knockout fixtures.
The player’s last league goal came during an encounter against Kaizer Chiefs earlier this season, where he rescued a point for the Students after his equaliser. Gamal has also taken the most shots for Wits in the Absa Premiership, taking his tally 26 and with seven of them on target.
The Egyptian international is also the biggest threat up front, as the statistics show that the 26-year-old totals at least seven touches in the penalty area per 90 minutes played for the Students.
Hlanti is another player who has been in top form for the Students despite the team’s form in the Absa Premiership. According to the statistics, the Bafana Bafana international makes the most passes (339) out of any player in the Wits side, making at least 14 passes in the final third per 90 minutes.
Keene has scored four goals in all competitions for Wits in the current 2017/18 campaign and after his goal sealed their spot in the final of the Telkom Knockout competition at the weekend. Keene will be eager to continue his momentum and could use the clash against Sundowns to get back to his form.
