Wits Release Foreigner
Bidvest Wits have released Slavko Damjanovic.
Bidvest Wits have started with their clear-out, as expected, with news reaching the Siya crew that Slavko Damjanovic has parted ways with the club.
The Siya crew revealed two months ago that the 25-year-old central defender was on borrowed time with The Students and was facing the exit door. Having fallen down the pecking order under Coach Gavin Hunt, it seemed ever so likely that he would be leaving.
Earlier today it was reported that Damjanovic, together with Steven Pienaar, had not returned to training following the Christmas break. It has now been confirmed by the player’s representative, Ivica Stankovic, that the Montenegrin has parted ways with the club after only half a season with the team.
“Yes, Slavko has already left the club. We agreed a mutual termination with Wits and it’s been finalised. He’s in Johannesburg. A few clubs have showed interest, so we will see what is the way forward,” confirmed Stankovic.
Damjanovic’s exit means that Wits have made one spot available in their foreign quota, with Hunt expected to bolster his squad next month.
