Orlando Pirates midfielder Thandani 'Bibo' Ntshumayelo suffered a blow last night, being forced off as a substitute in the team’s 3-1 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces in the Telkom Knockout match at the Mbombela Stadium, due to a recurring ankle injury.
A brace from Bucs striker Lennox Bacela and a strike from Oupa Manyisa sealed a well deserved 3-1 win in the thrilling Telkom Knockout last 16 battle.
Bibo is one of a number of Pirates players who have suffered with injury this season, along with Siyabonga Sangweni, Andile Jali and Collins Mbesuma, although the depth within the Bucs squad has been strong enough to withstand the added pressure of having so many injuries.
The Siya crew confirmed the injury with Bucs’ Public Relations Officer, Mickey Modisane, who expressed concern at the fact that it is a recurring injury.
Modisane said, “Bibo’s injury that he picked up last night was the same one that he had the last time. We’ll have to take a close look at it because it’s not good for the player. He will go for another check-up later today, so we’ll know by later how long he’ll be out for.”
Pirates will be hoping to have a full strength squad available for selection ahead of their second leg CAF Champions League semi-final clash with Esperance in Tunisia on October 19.
