Chippa United are set to invite former Moroka Swallows player Phumelele Bhengu to Cape Town for an assessment with the club.
The Chilli Boys are wanting to bolster their striking force before the league resumes in February and have earmarked the 23-year-old as a target.
Bhengu has been in the football wilderness since parting ways with Mpumalanga Black Aces at the end of the 2011/12 season, however could be offered the opportunity to get his career back on track at the Farouk Abrahams-coached side.
“The other boy that we might sign is Phumelele Bhengu. We are hoping to sign him as a striker. The Afcon break would allow him to catch up in fitness,” said the source.
The former South African international Under-23 star can be played in both the defence and in attack. In his last competitive season with Aces, Bhengu finished the campaign with the second highest number of goals in the NFD.
