Best & Worst: Mamelodi Sundowns v Orlando Pirates

By Soccer Laduma - Jan 13, 2018 10:53 PM

Soccer Laduma selects the six best and the four worst performers following Orlando Pirates' 3-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns.

Best:

Luvuyo Memela: 7,5/10

Memela had a good match and could have at least scored a brace after missing a golden chance in the first. However, his goal - the third of the match, was sublime and he was a livewire throughout the match.

Mpho Makola: 7/10

Makola was impressive going forward and his second goal for the Buccaneers was technically outstanding.

Justin Shonga: 6.5/10

Shonga cleverly created the second goal for Makola after pouncing on an error at the back. His movement and touches on the ball are good on the eye and on the field.

Jackson Mabokgwane: 7/10

Mabokgwane kept the Buccaneers in the lead going into the halftime break. He was outstanding in the first half as he pulled off a number of fine saves.

Ntsikelelo Nyauza: 7/10

Nyauza's second minute strike handed the Buccaneers the lead and he proved to be solid down the right flank.

Percy Tau: 7/10

Tau created problems for the Buccaneers defence throughout the match and he did manage to get on the score-sheet in the second half.

Worst:

Denis Onyango: 4/10

Onyango could have done better with at least two last goals he conceded. It was uncharacteristic for him to switch off in such a big game.

Themba Zwane: 4/10

Zwane was kept quiet throughout the match. He could not combine with Tau and Vilakazi as usual upfront.

Sibusiso Vilakazi: 4/10

Vilakazi had an off day in the false-nine role. He was a frustrated figure upfront and missed a golden chance shortly after Pirates opened the scoring.

Oupa Manyisa: 5/10

Manyisa was ineffective in the middle of the park and failed to make his presence felt.

Sundowns gave Pirates the win, Makola's goal. I guess that's soccer for you, you have to capitalise on your opponents mistakes. So it is not true that Pirates outplayed THE MIGHTY MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

I happen to disagree with cowditor and other supporters...we were not outplayed by pirates its just that pirates got their chances and burry them whereas we had ours but failed to convert...if it wasnt for jackson mabogwane we would have beaten pirates or drew for goodness sake

Not everyday you see Sundowns out played, let alone by Pirates but it happen yesterday and it is good for everybody going forward. We do not wanna see what Man City, Bayern and Barca doing done at our league. It must be competetive till May. Anyway Sundowns will still win the league.

@99Elevenfc kikiki I did watch the game the thing is people say they have quality so quality can't be outplayed like that I don't like Pierats, but Sundowns took over of being my hatest team well done by shutting their play down . They say they play football just to fool opponents to give Kekana a space to do his kicking forward from the back skop vooren toe. Yesterday Memela kept distracting him every time he has the ball he have no plan B he only know those long passes

when it comes to onyango rating you either lie, hurting or possible trying to purposefully take or daint bucs' shine all goals were world class!also mabokgwane did better than 7/10.even tau strike needed a wicked deflection to beat him!that should tell you how switched-on he was,and why he was bra-shakes mashaba's no1 bafana keeper!
