Best & Worst: Chiefs v P Stars

Soccer Laduma selects the six best and four worst performers following Kaizer Chiefs’ 1-1 draw against Platinum Stars on Wednesday night, 14 September 2016.

BEST:

Ndumiso Mabena: 7/10

He looked lively in attack and was a constant threat for the Kaizer Chiefs defence with his pace and skill. He had a few shots on goal which were either saved or went just wide of the target.

Henrico Botes: 7.5/10

Normally Botes is the one scoring goals, but against Chiefs he was a play-maker. He created chances on goal for his teammates with his precise passing and decent crosses into the box. He did find the back of the net, but was adjudged to be in an off-sides position.

Robert N’gambi: 7/10

He was a constant threat in attack for Platinum Stars and caused the Chiefs defence a lot of problems with his speed and skill. He had a few shots on goal which were well-saved by Khune and he did get the game’s first goal, even if it was controversial.

Siphiwe Mnguni: 7/10

He was solid in his defensive role and read the game well. He kept the chiefs attack at bay for the most part and was handed the ‘man of the match’ award for his efforts.

Erick Mathoho: 7/10

In his first game back since his injury he was superb in defence and was also threatening at set-pieces. He had one header on goal which was well-saved and he created his side’s goal with a low right-wing cross.

Itumeleng Khune: 7/10

He had a great game between the sticks for Chiefs. He made numerous good saves and kept Chief sin the game. Even the controversial goal that actually never crossed the line was first saved  by Khune. He is back to his best.

WORST:

Lucky Baloyi: 5.5/10

He was not his usual impactful self in midfield. He gave the ball away cheaply and looked a little lacklustre at times. His passing was not good and he offered nothing in terms of attack either. He was substituted midway through the second half.

Ramahlwe Mphahlele: 5.5/10

He was really poor in his right-back position. He made really poor decisions for a player of his experience. Moreover, his crossing into the box in particular was bad and he often wasted possession.

Edmore Chirambadare: 5.5/10

He showed real pace on the flank, but his decision making and passing was poor. He often gifted possession back to Stars in bad areas on the pitch which allowed the opposition to attack. He was substituted at half time.

Edward Manqele: 5.5

He was virtually a ghost on the field and had very little influence on the game. He was never a threat in attack and when he did get the ball his passing and decision making in the final third was poor. He was substituted early in the second half.
