Morrison Opens Up On Unreported Injury, Unprofessionalism, Craziness & A Lot More

Bernard Morrison Gives Insight On His Failed Chippa United Move

By Soccer Laduma - Aug 01, 2018 07:35 PM

Bernard Morrison has spoken openly about his supposed move to Chippa United after parting ways with Orlando Pirates.

Two weeks ago, Chippa announced that the club has signed Morrison, Thamsanqa Sangweni and Thabo Matlaba from Pirates.

The Port Elizabeth club’s confirmation on Twitter on July 20 went as follows, “Chippa United Executive Chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi has confirmed the signing of Bernard Morrison, Thamsanqa Sangweni and Thabo Matlaba from Orlando Pirates.”

However, Chippa were able to finalise a deal with only Sangweni, after both Matlaba and Morrison opposed switching to the Eastern Cape for the new season.

With the Chilli Boys having confirmed last week that the duo of Morrison and Matlaba will no longer be joining them, the Ghanaian forward has given more clarity on the failed move and why he objected it.

In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Morrison confirmed having spoken to ‘someone’ from Chippa and has explained why he refused the move, after initially referring club announcement about his signing as ‘fake news’.

“Celine, this has been quite a troubling situation. Firstly, when I met with Chairman (Dr Irvin Khoza), he told me that the coaches no longer have plans for me in the team for this coming season and he asked me what I thought about this decision. I said to him that I was only going to listen to him as my chairman, and he suggested that I go on loan to Chippa, which I refused to do, so we came to an agreement to part ways,” Morrison told Soccer Laduma.

Asked on why he refused the move that might have given him an opportunity for more game-time, the 23-year-old said he did not have Chippa in mind when he made the decision to come to South Africa from Democratic Republic of Congo’s AS Vita Club two years ago.

“I was not playing at Pirates because I had been suffering from an injury, which the chairman told me he never knew about it. So, the medical team never reported it to him that I was injured. The chairman thought it was a lack of game-time issue. I declined that suggestion that he made because I came here to South Africa for Orlando Pirates, not for Chippa. If Pirates felt that they were done with me, then off I go! When I saw that Chippa had announced me as their player, I was confused! What they did was unprofessional and craziness. You can’t talk to a player on the phone and from there you post it everywhere that you have signed him. My management will sort that out,” added the Ghanaian.

“Someone called me from there saying that he is the chairman and would want to have me there. But nothing happened because both my agent and I had already declined that move, so I really don’t know what was going on. My management also spoke to Pirates about this situation and they said that they will deal with the matter, but it’s still going on, so we need to take action by ourselves now. I have been given my clearance from Pirates, meaning that I am a free agent and my management are busy with a decision as to whether I should stay in South Africa or not,” added Morrison.

For the no-holds-barred interview with the former Bucs star, don’t miss out on the latest Soccer Laduma, edition 1084.

From his side, Chippa chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has demanded that he be paid R24 000 by Morrison which he says was paid to him as a relocation allowance when his failed move was still in the discussion phase.

I admire your apples boy! You came to SA for Orlando Pie-rats, not Chippa UTD. You were playing for a very formidable team (AS Vita) so if the Rats are done with you, ncono ubuyele eDRC where you will also get to play in the Champions League.

This has got nothing to do with Pirates. When Morrison was released by Bucs any team was allowed to make contact with him even today they still allowed. This is between Chippa Mpengesi, Chippa United and Morrison. Zebras also can join since they believe in free angents

Really it was unprofessinal for Mr Chippa to claim the player whereas there was nothing dotted on paper to support his statement. Any way this is good news for "Chiefs" he is a free agent now meaning they can do wht they're capable of

@So-Mathabo-KBY Let's be honest here. If you see an amount of money deposited in your bank account, will you run to a police station and report? Morrison did not ask for money, Mpengesi and Khoza were so generous without any signed T&C's with this boy, he can win them in any court of law

However, I like the boldness from Morrison's speech. But why was Sir Khoza not informed about Morrison's injury? This is puzzling a bit. Mpengesi shud have known that no deal can just be finalized telephonically, I thought he was matured. All the best Morrison, you weren't given sufficient game time but surely God has something good for you. Have faith.

Since Morrison joined Rats, I never saw that energetic skillful player that was a thorn in Flops defense against AS Vita he never lived up to expectations even though towards the end of last season I thought he was picking up and adjusting to the PSL, but that's what happens when a team is capable of signing 10 or more players in one transfer window players hardly get a chance to really adjust .

Mpengesi was very unprofessional in dealing with the matter(Together with the Toothless one on this matter). so for mpengesi to him it's right to pay a professional soccer player relocation fees of a mere R24 000?Even our bankrupt and stingy govt does better in that department...

Mpengesi's has once again showed his incompetency and lack of managerial skills.Morrison did well to put his funny antics aside and stood firmly for his rights.I applaud him (Morrison) for exposing Chippa's vanity and his unprofessionalism in the manner in which he handled the whole situation.
