Mhlongo’s Tribute For Shakes

Benson Mhlongo has added to the multitudes that have been sending their heartfelt condolences for the fallen hero of South African football Isaac ‘Shakes’ Kungwane.

Kungwane sadly passed away yesterday (Wednesday) at the age of 43. Messages of support have been pouring since the news of Kungwane’s passing was announced yesterday.

“I don’t know how to start because Shakes is the guy that helped me in my upbringing. I learnt a lot from Shakes. I learnt about hard work because of Shakes. He used to coach me on the field – he and his brother Aaron. He used to spray those passes – just spraying those passes. He used to do that well.

"It’s a great loss. He used to teach people how to pass the ball on the field. He used to practice passing. People say he was born like that. It was practice. He used to practice passing the ball alongside with his brother. Nowadays we have a problem with scoring the goals because we don’t have people to create. It’s a great loss to the football fraternity. Everything happens for a reason.

"I think his loss might teach us and the big bosses of the game today something. What are we doing about the legends of the game? For example, there is Bashin Mahlangu. Are we using his experience to teach us how to shoot? We need people that have been there to teach us these things. Let’s use them please before we lose them one by one. We are slowly losing our legends without using them.

"May his soul rest in peace. It is a great loss to South Africa, Alexandra and to me as a brother,” said Mhlongo.

RIP Shakes Kungwane
