Benni McCarthy On Lebogang Manyama’s Transfer Status: My Only Worry Is What Happens On The Pitch
Cape Town City head coach, Benni McCarthy, revealed that he isn’t too concerned about the transfer status of Lebogang Manyama as he is only worried about his job on the pitch.
It was revealed by Soccer Laduma prior to City’s clash against Bidvest Wits on Sunday that Manyama had been dropped from the squad, with McCarthy subsequently confirming that the reason was that the player was not giving 100% in training.
However, during the encounter, local reports suggested that McCarthy had a bust up with Manyama and the Bafana Bafana legend since confirmed that it was not true.
“He would have had a black eye if we had a bust up,” McCarthy joked. “No, it is just, at training every day and especially this week more so than ever, because it is getting closer to the transfer window closing, it was a bit more noticeable and in this situation, that is when players do silly things and you get injured, I don’t want that to happen,” he went on to tell media after the game.
“You asking the wrong person,” McCarthy revealed after being asked about Manyama’s transfer status.
“My worry is what goes on here on the pitch, I don’t want to get involved, and then it becomes personal. So I think I want to keep it strictly between me and the players, if he feels there is something that he wants me to know, he knows I am open and I am all ears if he wants to tell me what is going on, I am there, but, I don’t want to know what goes on there, that is business with the chairman.”
“I just want to be concentrated, I feel that if I know too much that goes on there and the certain player doesn’t give me what I need then it is going to be a conflict of interest, because I am going to use the fact that I know what is going on, against him on the pitch. I don’t want to do that, I want to judge him, I want to be mad at him, I want to congratulate him purely on what he gives the team and me on the pitch,” he said.
