Benni: We Are Spoilt For Choice

Benni McCarthy seemed to be happy with the performance his side displayed on Saturday, with new signing, Riyaad Norodien returning to action since his move away from Orlando Pirates.

Cape Town City secured a 2-0 victory over SuperSport United in the opening Absa Premiership encounter at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, with McCarthy able to experiment with his new signings after adding enough depth to his attacking department.

Norodien, who completed his move to City from Pirates last month, has impressed McCarthy, despite the head coach stating that the 23-year-old did not play in his best position on the day.

“We are spoilt for choice. Surprise has been unbelievable last season, so for me, he gets asked which position he wants to play (in) because that’s the relationship that we have,” McCarthy told the media after the game.

“So, Skilo (Riyaad Norodien) has to take one for the team, but it is a position he is well accustomed to. He can play there but it is probably not his best position, he will tell you himself that he preferred coming in from the left because of the strike he (could) have.

“There will be (fatigue) and as the season goes on, I will switch players and also we didn’t get to see Gift Links as well. It was another player that I wanted to bring in,” he added.

The City head coach then went on to comment on the player management of Teko Modise, with veteran midfielder putting in a full 90 minutes on the day.

Like I said, with each individual player, I have my way (in which) I manage (them), Surprise (is) different (from) Teko, (Teko) to Putsche.”

“To Teko, it’s always about what he can give the team, I always ask him, not that players have (a) preference but I think we were teammates and he has earned my respect for me to go and have this kind of relationship with him,” he said.
