McCarthy has thanked his technical team at the Durban-based club, as well as the players and club management for how their season has turned.

“I’d just like to say thank you very much for voting for me and for having me as the Coach of the Season award (recipient). I could not have done it without my technical team, amazing technical team. These guys their work ethic, their loyalty and the support they have given me to be able to work to the best of my ability and as a team we were able to get over the line to make sure that the team qualifies in second position for the CAF Champions League,” said McCarthy.

“So, I’m grateful for these guys but most importantly, I think the guys who should take all the credit must be the players. The players have been fantastic since I walked through the door. They have given me everything of them and more. They were able to have the best season, the historical season for AmaZulu Football Club and I’m very grateful and thankful for their hard work, determination and the sacrifices, and also their willingness to learn and to improve and be better. That’s why we were all able to succeed, and for me to win the Coach of the Season award,” the coach added.
