Kaizer Chiefs have started the 2016/17 campaign on a rather disappointing note, having lost two competitive matches in a row. But, Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy believes that with time, Chiefs’ situation will change.
The mighty Amakhosi have already been knocked out of the 2016 MTN8 competition, by the hands of Cape Town City in the first round, which leaves the Soweto giants with one less piece of silverware to challenge for.
Despite losing their first Absa Premiership fixture against Bidvest Wits, do the Glamour Boys have the right mentality and experienced players to improve on their current form and go all out and challenge for the league?
“I think Chiefs have top quality players. They’ve got players who’ve been in this situation before. They’ve got players that have champions’ mentality. So I’m sure with time Chiefs’ situation will change. They’ve been the best team over the last ten years, Chiefs have been there and there about,” he said.
George Lebese, Itumeleng Khune and Willard Katsande are amongst the most experienced campaigners in the Amakhosi team, and are also amongst those who defended the Absa Premiership title in the 2014/15 season.
“They still have that mentality within that club and Steve (Komphela) can get it right. The players look like they will play for him. You know, it’s early days, two games in to the season, you can’t judge someone just on two games. I think they must give coaches time to settle,” Bafana's all-time top goal-scorer concluded.
