Benni McCarthy: All I Ask Is For A Fair Referee
Cape Town City head coach, Benni McCarthy, is hopeful that the supporters in Cape Town can enjoy a good brand of football this weekend without it being negatively influenced by decisions made during the encounter.
McCarthy has previously expressed his disappointment in two of their Absa Premiership encounters, where he believes that referees made incorrect decisions which cost his team in some way.
An example of which was during the Mother City-based club’s league encounter against Orlando Pirates, where Lehlohonolo Majoro’s goal was disallowed, with many spectators questioning the legitimacy of the decision.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Saturday’s Cape Town derby against Ajax Cape Town, McCarthy hopes that the encounter will be without any controversial refereeing decisions.
“For me, I think it is fair, people come out and pay their money to watch really good football just for games to be cancelled out because of bad refereeing, so all I ask for is that we have a fair referee, a good referee, one that is into the game because it is going to be a game with a lot of tension between the two sides,” McCarthy told the media yesterday, September 27.
“It is going to be a game that is going to be physical as well, so, I don’t want the referee to spoil a really good game of football. So, just for consistency that is all from my side then these guys know that they will be able to play to their best of their abilities if the ref is having a good game,” he added.
