The South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that PSL referee, Daniel Bennett has been selected to blow the whistle at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Bennett will be accompanied by assistant referee Zakhele Siwela on his trip to the UAE. The two will be flying the South African flag at the tournament that is scheduled to run from October 17 to November 8.
“The South African duo will join 61 other FIFA-accredited match officials at the tournament. 52 matches will be played in six venues across the UAE, namely: Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, Al-Rashid Stadium, Emirates Club Stadium, Sheikh Khalifa International Stadium, Fujairah Club Stadium and Sharjah Stadium. Bennett and Siwela will depart for Dubai on Wednesday, 09 October and return on Saturday, 09 November.
"The duo have an excellent record, officiating at FIFA and CAF matches with the most recent being the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup Group J qualifier between Senegal and Uganda. Siwela also officiated at the previous FIFA U17 World Cup held in Mexico in 2011. Both match officials have been selected to be part of the match officials for the upcoming 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup tournament,” safa.net revealed.
