Referee Daniel Bennett recieved some criticism for his performance in the recently completed Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8. The game was an incredibly physical affair and at times the physicality appeared to boil over as skirmishes broke out amongst the players.

Numerous players from both sides had to be bandaged up as neither side was willing to back out of physical collisions. Bennett did hand out some yellow cards in an effort to exert some control over the match but some people were left with the impression that he hadn't managed proceedings as well as could be expected.

Nevertheless, it appears that the experienced match official will not be sanctioned by Safa for his performance. A referees' committee regularly meets to review and assess the performances of match officials in the PSL.
Safa's Acting Head of Referees, Ace Kika, explained that a Review Committee had met and as it stands, no action has been taken against Bennett.
He said, "I have not received a report from the Review Committee so I think they're happy. I think everyone was fine with his performance. I can't say for sure, but as it stands I haven't recieved anything."
