Benn McCarthy: I Cant Face That Man Without Three Points
Cape Town City head coach, Benni McCarthy says that he wouldn’t want to be put in the position to face his chairman, John Comitis without three points from this Saturday’s encounter.
The two ends of the Mother City will lock horns this weekend, in one of the most anticipated derbies in the Premier Soccer League.
Ajax Cape Town will host City at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, September 30, where the Urban Warriors will look to claim their first set of bragging rights in the form of three points.
It was the Citizens who were the dominant side last season, winning both home and away derby clashes in the Absa Premiership.
Now, McCarthy, who is known as the ‘Prodigal Son’ in the Mother City, will be faced with the task of claiming all three points this weekend and speaking in the Cape Town derby press conference, the Bafana Bafana legend revealed that he will not want to deliver anything less than three points to the man who has been instrumental in his career.
“Obviously it is special, because when you grow up in Cape Town, you know the difficulties you had to go through to get where you are and as a player I was fortunate enough to get out here and have a luxury career and then to come back the full circle and now managing a club that is owned by John Comitis, I literally grew up in front of him so that is special,” McCarthy told the media.
“So with all that pressure, I think for me there is no way in hell that I can go after Saturday and face that man without three points (laughs). It is a game that I am looking forward to because, yeah, like I said, my family is going to be here as well, so I have a lot of friends, the whole of Cape Town and the Hanover Park is going to be here as well,” he added.
