Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet has confirmed that he would be interested in coaching in South Africa again, though only at the big clubs.

Saintfiet is currently the head coach of Gambia national team where his work in recent months has been commendable.

The tactician has previously coached in the Absa Premiership during his brief spell with Free State Stars in the 2014/15 season.

“I love the country, the organisation, the fans and I for sure want to work in South Africa again in the future, but with the major teams. But I am not looking or applying for a job, I have a fantastic job currently, since July 2018 I am coaching the national team of Gambia. I renewed by contract last year and I still have a contract till mid-2021,” Saintfiet told the Siya crew.

“So, (there is) no need to look for another job. When I came, Gambia did not win a competitive match in five years and never in history (did they win) a competitive away match. Now, we are leading our (Africa Cup of Nations) qualification group ahead of Gabon, DR Congo and Angola – a tough group. The last two years we beat Benin, Guinea, we beat Morocco and Angola away. We drew twice with Algeria, so great results. 17 players made their debuts. And I love working in Gambia. I have a great FA and President, a good staff and fantastic players. So, I have no ambition and no intention to leave,” the coach added.

In explaining further about the ‘major teams’, the coach said, “Not only Chiefs and Pirates, but also Sundowns, Wits, SuperSport, Cape Town FC and maybe some others. All South African teams are well organised. Also, Free State Stars and the only difference that you get in these major teams is that they are the best of the best. That makes it possible to win titles.”
