Stuart Baxter has given rave reviews on a player he targeted during his Kaizer Chiefs tenure, but only landed him a few years later at his next job.
Cole Alexander was on the Amakhosi wanted list for some time while the Englishman was head coach there between 2012 and 2015.
The midfielder, however, was never signed by the Glamour Boys – joining SuperSport United from Polokwane City and later Bidvest Wits.
It’s at SuperSport that he was part of Baxter’s squad.
And the two reunited yet again, though briefly, at Odisha FC in the Indian Premier League until Baxter was sacked last month following comments made during a television post-match interview which led to a backlash.
Baxter later issued an apology via a statement to the Siya crew.
“It’s no secret that I have always been an admirer of Cole – he is a fantastic person and a great football player,” the coach said about a player he signed at Odisha four months ago.
“And I am not biased in saying this, but Cole has represented South Africa well. He is an ambassador for SA and because of that PSL players will be well received in India.”
The 67-year-old is back in Mzansi visiting family before he sets off on another project, one he says should have a bit of security given the pandemic.
