Baxter Isn’t Focused On Chiefs’ Lead
Kaizer Chiefs head coach, Stuart Baxter, says that he’s not focused on how many points his side are ahead, and knows that his team have to be ready for anything.
The Amakhosi are currently 15 points clear at the top of the Absa Premiership as the second half of the league nears its start, but Baxter says that there will be pressure on his players regardless of how far ahead they are.
Speaking to the media, the Glamour Boys head coach said, “Pressure is everywhere, no matter where you are on the log. The key to success will be in our mental readiness. Whether we lead with five, ten or fifteen points. It doesn’t matter much, what matters are the performances on the field of play.
“This time we will approach things differently in terms of how we prepare and recuperate. Things change when you include long distance travelling in different conditions. However, we won’t feel sorry for ourselves, we have to be ready. Hopefully the squad will remain fresh and healthy.
“At times it is tougher to be successful than not being successful. We will apply the mental preparation to the last degree.
“The league will be interesting to follow. The fans will check how all the teams get out of the blocks at the restart. For us, Celtic will be tough, as always. Buoyed by their passionate home supporter’s base, this promises to be an entertaining game to watch.”
Chiefs take on Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday evening as they look to extend their current unbeaten run to 24 games.
