Baroka FC have strengthened their squad with the signing of a new defender for the upcoming season.
Rantabane finished the 2017/18 season playing for Mthatha Bucks in the National First Division. Despite Bucks’ unsuccessful season, which led to the team getting relegated to the ABC Motsepe League, Rantabane was one of the few influential players from the Eastern Cape outfit.
The 27-year-old Free State-born player, who was previously on the books of Orlando Pirates, has signed a three-year deal with Bakgaga, as confirmed by his representative, Lizwe Mthethwa of Aftesec Sports Group.
“We are delighted to confirm that Rantabane has signed a straight three-year deal with Baroka FC. He was arguably the best centre-back in the league (NFD) last season," confirmed Mthethwa.
“His performance against AmaZulu in the Nedbank Cup showed what the club (Baroka) can expect from him in the upcoming season. We thank the chairman of Baroka for giving this boy a chance,” said the representative.
In other news from Baroka, defender Mzwanele Mahashe is linked with an exit from the club, as he is nearing the end of his contract, which is yet to be renewed.
The centre-back’s contract with the Limpopo outfit is set to expire at the end of next month.
