Clive Barker’s future is still uncertain, with the former Wits head coach explaining that he does not know what lies ahead for himself. However, he is expected to meet with The Students management within the next week.
Barker came into the club after the firing of Spaniard Antonio Habas and led the team to a fourth place finish in the 2012/13 Absa Premiership campaign, before the announcement of Gavin Hunt as their new head coach for next season.
Now, with Hunt taking over at the helm of The Clever Boys, it remains to be seen what Barker’s immediate future holds and whether he will remain at the club, and be redeployed in a new role, or look for another job elsewhere.
The African Cup of Nations winning coach told the Siya crew, “I’m meeting Jose soon and then I’ll know more about where I’m likely to be. The first priority was to be the head coach, but obviously I wasn’t going to be because I knew about what has eventually transpired.
“Secondly whether there was a chance of another role, and if there was another role what role would it be. I’m talking to them, I think they’ll be something by the end of the month.”
Following his impressive performance with The Students this season, Barker will no doubt be a target for any of the PSL outfits looking for a new man at the helm.
