Sthembiso Ngcobo and Clive Barker have been awarded the PSL Q3 Player and Coach of the Quarter awards.
Ngcobo has been in fine form for Wits in recent weeks, finding the back of the net on many occasions as the Clever Boys keep up their fight to stay within touching distance of league leaders, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Speaking at today’s conference, he said, “I think if it wasn't for Gavin Hunt, my performances wouldn't be this way. I want to score 10 goals this season.
Meanwhile, Barker has performed miracles at Aces this season, taking a recently promoted team and turning them into a side that has beaten all of South Africa’s big three and is challenging for a place in the top eight, but in the top four.
The veteran coach said, “I have been very fortunate that I have a whole lot of quality players at Black Aces. I told my wife that Aces a very talented team. They’re are a talented bunch of footballers.”
The head judge of the award, Farouk Khan, explained the reasoning behind the choices, saying, “To give Clive the award was based on taking many players & combining them. The brand of football that Aces play is exciting.
“Ngcobo has been clinical in his finishing. We felt 'Mapholoba' has been the X-Factor for Wits.”
Both Barker and Ngcobo will be given R15,000 in prize money for claiming the Coach and Player of Q3 prizes.
