Banyana Banyana are due to take on Botswana in a friendly international on Saturday, June 7, at the University of the Vaal.
The news comes after the Comoros Islands withdrew from the 2014 African Women’s Championship qualifiers.
Banyana Banyana steam-rolled the Comoros 13-0 in the first leg, but the islanders pull out of the second leg which was scheduled for June 7.
Coach Vera Pauw has kept the majority of players who featured in the match against the Comoros, but also had a look at other players including Kgadi Mokoma and Chantelle Esau from the SASOL league treble winning national champions, Palace Super Falcons from Gauteng.
According to a press release from SAFA, Pauw said their aims are to become a world beater in international women’s football by saying: “Our goal is to become a force to be reckoned with in international women’s football. Playing against Botswana provides another opportunity for us to sharpen our skills and get closer to our goal of finishing in the top three in the African Women’s Championships later this year.”
She also mentioned that the clash against Botswana will be the ideal opponents to get into good shape.
“This clash against Botswana is one of those that will assist in getting the team in good condition for the AWC,” Pauw added.
The 2014 African Women’s Championship will take place from 11-25 October in Namibia, and will also be used as qualification for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, with the top three qualifying for the finals in Canada.
The clash will commence at 15h00.
