Kaizer Chiefs were handed the Absa Premiership trophy on Saturday, despite losing 1-0 -read the ful match report here- to University of Pretoria on the day and former player, Brian Baloyi, believes that the players were protecting themselves for the Nedbank Cup final.
With Chiefs having already bagged the league crown, Baloyi said that the players did not want to risk injury and have their minds set on the cup final against SuperSport United, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
“I think no player wanted to risk injury. They were thinking of the Nedbank Cup final as they had already won the league title. But I think they should have fought hard to win the last game of the season and go into the cup final full of confidence.
“But that's how it is sometimes, when you have another important game to play and you have already won the title,” Baloyi concluded.
