Bafana Team Pays Tribute To Shakes

The South African football fraternity was shaken to its very foundations yesterday after the announcement was made that former Kaizer Chiefs and Manning Rangers footballing icon, Isaac “Shakes” Kungwane, had passed away.

Following the sad news, many fans and football enthusiasts took the time out to send their condolences to the Kungwane family. The Bafana Bafana technical team also paid tribute while on tour down under in Australasia.

Bafana Bafana coach, Gordon Igesund, spoke out with much sadness following Shakes' passing by saying, “It’s terrible to hear that and very sad to think about his passing on. He was a lovely person and very humble and with so much respect of people. May his soul rest in peace.”

Igesund's right-hand man and Bafana Bafana assistant coach, Serame Letsoaka, spoke fondly about Shakes saying that he often embarrassed him to the very point of him retiring.

“He has been loved by people and was a great player with magic feet. I was a victim of his popular magic feet that I decided to quit the game just like that. After one of the games when we played against Kaizer Chiefs way back in 1995, after that match I hung up my boots.”

“He exposed me like it was not funny, and that’s when I thought its better I retire and create space for fresh blood,” he said.

Bafana Bafana legends, Lucas Radebe and Quinton Fortune also took to twitter to express their feelings on the matter.

@LucasRadebe 10h : “Deepest sympathy to Shakes Kungwane's family on his passing today. Great friend & teammate. Really funny guy. He will be missed,” Radebe tweeted.

‏@QuintonFortune 12h :”RIP to my brother Isaac #nolookpass Shakes Kungwane,” Fortune tweeted.

RIP Shakes Kungwane
