Moroka Swallows and Bafana Bafana striker, Edward Manqele, was involved in a bust up with an unknown man at a friend’s party on Boxing Day.
According to sources, the police are investigating a case of assault against Manqele, after the Swallows striker beat up the unknown man.
Manqele’s agent, Karabo Mathang, confirmed the incident to the Siya crew, yet gave a different account of the incident.
“Mr Edward Manqele, confirms an incident that took place on the 26th December 2013 when he was leaving a house, where friends had gathered in Kagiso,” read a statement issued by Mathang on behalf of Manqele.
“While entering his vehicle, he was confronted by an unknown man who presented himself as a physical threat and used abusive language towards Edward.
“This took Mr. Manqele by surprise and he tried to ignore the aggressor, but he continued with an aggressively antagonistic approach,” added the statement.
“Mr Manqele had no option but to defend himself by walloping the man away from his vehicle, fearing for his safety and the safety of his girlfriend and her friend who were travelling with him.
“This matter is now being investigated by the police, and he is confident that the truth will be presented in court,” concluded the statement.
Manqele is currently with the Bafana team that’s playing in the 2014 Chan tournament.
