Bafana Bafana’s preparations for their international friendly with Lesotho and the two 2014 World Cup qualifiers, against Central African Republic and Ethiopia in June, have been hampered by injury, most notably in the defence.
Coach Gordon Igesund has already seen three players withdrawn from the original 25-man squad he named for the upcoming fixtures, with Kagisho Dikgacoi, Tsepo Masilela and Siboniso Gaxa all been forced onto the sidelines due to their respective injuries.
The three players add to the list of Bafana regulars currently nursing their injuries, including the likes of Siyabonga Sangweni, Morgan Gould and Thabo Matlaba, as well as in form Israeli-based striker, Dino Ndlovu.
Sangweni and Gould would in all likeliness be Igesund’s first choice central defensive pairing, with both Masilela and Gaxa challenging for a starting berth in the national team. The players’ unavailability highlight the defensive woes that Igesund is facing, however the squad is well represented in their absence.
Bafana will gather tomorrow (Wednesday) in preparation for the game against Lesotho on Sunday.
