Bafana Bafana's ultimately humiliating early exit from the Chan tournament means that the national team has missed out on earning a close to R8 million payday. The Local Organising Commitee for Chan has confirmed that the winners of the tournament will recieve 750 000 American Dollars, which when converted to rands is just over R8 million.
Recreation and Sport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, confirmed that no government sponsored performance bonuses would be handed out to a team he later branded, 'a bunch of useless losers.' However, according to the Chan's payment structure for all 16 teams, Bafana will recieve a R1.3 million payday for finishing third in Group A
News of this payout to the national team for what was truthfully an unacceptable set of displays on home soil, will undoubtedly raise some debate amongst supporters about whether the team really deserve this money. Nonetheless, the payment is automatically paid out by Chan and so the money will no doubt land up in Safa's coffers in the near future.
The Siya crew will monitor how Safa intend to spend their over R1 million payday, although at this stage it seems unlikely the money will be dispersed evenly amongst Gordon Igesund's humbled 23-man squad.
