Siboniso Gaxa has been forced out of the Bafana Bafana team due to injury, with Siyanda Xulu expected to replace the defender in coach Gordon Igesund’s travelling squad.
Igesund has been dealt yet another blow with the news that Gaxa has been forced onto the sidelines. Gaxa, who played a key part in Kaizer Chiefs’ league and Nedbank Cup championship winning season, has been ruled out of South Africa’s upcoming fixtures because of a hamstring injury.
Gaxa picked up the injury in last weekend’s Nedbank Cup final, and was subsequently replaced by Lincoln Zvasiya.
The defender’s withdrawal comes on the back of the news that both Tshepo Masilela and Kagisho Dikgacoi have pulled out of the squad, owing to injury.
It was reported late last night that the two players will not be a part of the squad preparing to face Lesotho in an international friendly, as well as the two 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Central African Republic and Ethiopia in June.
As reported, Ricardo Nunes was been called up in place of Masilela, with Xulu now expected to replace Gaxa.
Bafana will assemble tomorrow (Wednesday), in preparation for the game against Lesotho this weekend.
