Orlando Pirates striker Lennox Bacela is aware that the Kaizer Chiefs defenders will be looking to stop him from scoring when the two sides meet in the Soweto Derby today, but adds that he is ready for the challenge.
Speaking to the Siya crew ahead of the derby at FNB Stadium, Bacela said he was ready to try to score against Chiefs.
“Every game I play, I always look to score and if I play in the derby then obviously, I’ll be looking to score against Chiefs. I know that the Chiefs defenders will be focusing on me, but that will be their mistake because anyone could score the winning goal for us while they are busy focusing on me,” said Bacela.
Bacela also dismissed the notion that Pirates are favourites to win the derby.
“Every game is new, so we can’t really say that we’re favourites going into this game. There are no such things as favourites. This is an away game for us, so I’m sure Chiefs will be looking to win it at home, so how can people say we’re favourites? “Asked Bacela.
Meanwhile, other news coming out of the Pirates squad is that defender Lucky Lekgwathi is likely to miss the derby again.
Lekgwathi missed the last derby, the 1-1 draw in the MTN8, with club saying that he was being rested, but the Bucs captain has not played for Pirates since then.
Word is that Bucs coach Roger de Sa has been impressed by the Rooi Mahamutsa & Ayanda Gcaba partnership at the back and has told Lekgwathi to fight for his place in the team.
