Bacela Hat-Trick Puts Pirates In Semis

Lennox Bacela bagged a hat-trick as Orlando Pirates hammered Golden Arrows 4-0 in their Telkom Knockout quarter-final at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening. Kermit Erasmus scored the other goal.

Pirates will now join Supersport United, Platinum Stars and Kaizer Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals.

Pirates started with just two changes from the team that played in the CAF semi-final, with Khethowakhe Masuku and Kermit Erasmus coming in for Tlou Segolela and Sifiso Myeni respectively.

In the fifth minute Thabo Matlaba tried a shot from outside the area, but his shot flew over.

A minute later Khethowakhe Masuku tried another long range effort, but it went high and wide.

In the eighth minute Daine Klate sent in a dangerous cross, but Siya Mngoma was able to reach the ball first to make the clearance.

Lennox Bacela put Pirates in a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, as he got his head to the end of a top cross from Masuku to beat Mngoma.

Bacela had another chance two minutes later, but his shot from the edge of the area went out wide to the left.

In the 18th minute Oupa Manyisa saw his long range effort blocked, but the ball went out to Masuku down right, who sent in a good cross, but Bacela's touch sent the ball just wide of goal.

Kermit Erasmus made it 2-0 in the 34th minute. Masuku delivered in a free kick and Bacela got up to head the ball back to Erasmus, who blasted it in.

Bacela got his second in the 43rd minute to make it 3-0. Manyisa made a good run through the middle, beating a defender, before delivering in a great ball to Bacela, who made no mistake finishing with his right foot.

Pirates went into the break with a convincing 3-0 lead.

In the 54th minute Andile Jali sent in a good ball over-the-top to Ayanda Gcaba in the box, but he shot over.

Bacela got his hat-trick in the 57th minute, as he was played in unmarked by Erasmus, and Bacela made no mistake in beating Mngoma to make it 4-0.

In the 59th minute Masuka tried to score from a set piece, but his shot went just over.

Lucky Nguzana, who came on at half-time, had a chance for Arrows in the 60th minute, but his attempt went across the goal and out.

Nkanyiso Mlotshwa tried from long range in the 66th minute, but his shot from wide out left went into the side-netting.

Just before being substituted, Bacela tried a long range effort in the 68th minute, but it was blocked.

Kermit Erasmus had a chance in the 78th minute, but Mngoma was able to close him down and stop his shot.

Masuku tried again from a free-kick in the 86th minute, but his well struck shot went just wide.

In the 90th minute, Erasmus played sub Aubrey Ngoma into space, who passed back to Erasmus on the edge of the box, but he shot over.
