Mohammed-Awal Issah has been a notable absentee from AmaZulu in the past few days as the KZN side prepares for a crucial game against Free State Stars in the Telkom Knockout.
Issah was also absent from Craig Rosslee’s side when the team played to a 1-1 draw with SuperSport United in September. The Ghanaian had been involved in three games for Usuthu before the Matsatsantsa game.
AmaZulu’s team manager, Japhet Zwane, told the Siya crew that Issah is attending to personal issues back home in Ghana, although it had been rumoured that the player had gone AWOL.
“The player hasn’t returned yet. I’m not sure about his return. He had a problem and went home to sort that out,” said Zwane.
A source at AmaZulu confirmed that the player has been missing from the team for some time.
“I am about to start training with the team as I speak and the guy isn’t here. He hasn’t been with us for some time. I don’t know what is happening with him.
"What’s the story with the guy? I am really worried about him because he can really play. Please let me know when you hear something about him,” said the source.
Issah is in his second spell with AmaZulu, having rejoined the side in August on his return from overseas.
When Issah returned to AmaZulu, it was rumoured that the player’s former club, Rosenborg BK of Norway, was unhappy with the Ghanaian’s return to the PSL.
But it later appeared that there were no complications with the move as the player received the documents allowing him to turn out for Usuthu this season.
