Speaking to the Siya crew, 'Njenje' was adamant that this would be the year that a large number of the development players would earn their first team colours and graduate into the Bucs senior team.
The Peruvian-born football coach also declared that Bucs' development success begins with winning the MultiChoice Diski Challenge.
“Last year we had success stories with the likes of Menzi Masuku, Thabo Rakhale and Brighton Mhlongo who staked their claim in the Pirates senior squad,” said Palacios.
“Perhaps Mhlongo was the biggest success as he is a Bucs development product. He was thrown in the deep-end following the untimely death of his older development compatriot, Senzo Meyiwa.”
“This year we have to build more players who will join the first team. However we need to be careful it’s not just about promoting youngsters but it’s about ensuring they are ready for the big league,” he added.

“We already have a couple of the players training regularly with the first team which is an achievement. There has to be a continuous supply of players to feed the senior team as players leave or retire, " concluded Palacios.
