Full Time: Polokwane City 1-2 Golden Arrows
Date: 15 September 2013
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium
Two second-half goals from Philani Shange and Thanduyise Khuboni handed Golden Arrows their first win of the Absa Premiership season as they beat Polokwane City 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The first 45 was a rather dull affair with very few chances on goal as neither team were able to take a stranglehold of the game.
Both teams came into the game desperate for a win as Polokwane sat stone last on the table and Arrows third from bottom, and the football being played represented their places on the table.
The half was characterised by poor passing and bad decision making in the final third as no team was really able to create any clear cut scoring opportunities in the opening stanza.
The second 45 saw Arrows start to find their rhythm and they began to dictate terms.
In the 61st minute they made their pressure tell as Philani Shange gave them the lead with a left-footed strike, 1-0.
Eight minutes later and Arrows were able to double their lead from the penalty-spot after Philani Shange was brought down inside the box by Thapelo Tshilo.
Thanduyise Khuboni stepped-up and made no mistake from the spot, 2-0.
The home side tried to fight their way back into the match, but struggled to break down the Arrows defence.
Polokwane, though, did manage to pull a goal back in the 79th minute, also via a penalty-kick after Essau Kanyenda was fouled by Vuyisile Ntombayithethi inside the box.
Moffat Mdluli converted from the spot to make it 2-1, but it was too little too late.
The result sees Polokwane still at the root of the table while Arrows picked up their first three points of the season.
