Golden Arrows beat Maritzburg United 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the King Zwelithini Stadium in an ABSA Premiership clash.
Thanduyise Khuboni and Bonginkosi Ntuli scored for the home team, while Ayanda Nkosi scored for the visitors.
Vuyusile Ntombayithethi had the first shot in anger for Arrows after just a minute, as he blasted a shot from outside the box, but it hit the crossbar and went over.
In the fifth minute Jabulani Nene tried a long range effort for Arrows, but his shot flew wide of Shu-Aib Walters goal.
In the 22nd minute ams Maritzburg's Delron Buckley sent in a good deep cross but Thamsanqa Mkhize could only header the ball over the goal.
A minute later Dumisani Zwane had a chance for Arrows, but his shot went straight at Walters.
In the 28th minute Frank Sarfo-Gyamfi tried a long shot from outside the box, but Siya Mngoma was able to make the save as the ball came straight at him.
Three minutes alters Nene had another chance for Arrows, after being set up by Bonginkosi Ntuli, who ran well down the right, but Nene's shot was blocked.
In the 35th minute Philani Shange's free kick was tipped over by Walters, as Arrows pressed for the opener.
Ntuli had a shot at goal from the edge of the area in the 45th minute, but it took a deflection and went out.
Ntuli was back in the action again a minute later as he drew Walters out, the ball fell to Nene who tried to chip the keeper, but Walters was able to backtrack and make the save.
Seconds later Thokozani Sekotlong had a chance for Maritzburg, but his shot didn't trouble Mngoma, and it remained goalless in a tense first half, that saw more fouls than attempts at goal.
Nene had the first attempt in the second half in the 56th minute, but his header from Nkanyiso Cele's cross went wide and high.
Four minutes later Sarfo-Gyamfi had a great chance to give the Team of Choice the lead, as Mngoma was caught off his line, but his shot was cleared off the line by Joseph Musonda.
In the 62nd minute Michael Morton was adjudged to have fouled Zwane in the box, and Thanduyise Khuboni stepped up to Put Arrows in the lead with a well struck penalty.
Three minutes later Ntuli made it 2-0 to Arrows with a quality finish, as he dribbled into the box, then sent a curling shot into the top right corner.
Substitute Ayanda Nkosi pulled one back for Maritzburg with his first touch in the 70th minute, as he finished well from a Mohammad Awal cross.
In the 78th minute Ntuli broke well down the right, but his shot from the edge of the area went across the goalmouth and wide.
