Arrested Bafana Bafana Player Out On Bail...
The Bafana Bafana player who was arrested on the weekend for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol has been released on bail, with a provisional court date set.
News broke in Mzasnsi on Sunday, May 13, that 15 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, which included a Bafana Bafana international. While it was reported that the player is a 28-year-old former Orlando Pirates player, his identity has not been made public as yet.
Following the news, on Sunday Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) spokesman Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba confirmed the arrest. At the time Mahamba explained that the player had applied for bail, though it had not been granted at that point in time.
The spokesman has since confirmed that the football player has been released on bail and will appear in court next year.
“He has been released on R1 000 bail and will appear in the Hatfield Court, courtroom number two, on May 15, 2019,” stated Mahamba.
Questioning the time span of the provisional court date, Mahamba explained. “That’s right, it’s 2019. The reason is that their is a process and it must be followed. When an individual is arrested for alleged drinking and driving, a breathalyser test is taken. The individual is then taken for blood tests.
“To get the results of the tests takes up to one year, that is the max time. There are reasons for that but I cannot divulge why. But if the tests come back earlier, then he will receive a subpoena to appear in court before May 15, 2019. We now waiting for the evidence.”
