Last season Mamelodi Sundowns reached the final of the Nedbank Cup, although failed at the final hurdle after losing 2-0 to cross-city rivals, SuperSport United.
Today the Chloorkop-based side take on an in form Platinum Stars outfit at the quarter-final stage of the cup at Loftus Stadium in Tshwane, as they look to secure a semi-final berth.
Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse is confident that they will go all the way this time around and lift the trophy on the final day of the season. He told the Siya crew that after starting the season with a number of poor displays, they want to end on a high.
“I know both teams want to win and go all the way to the final. I expect a good game from both teams, but above all, I see Sundowns winning this one and even the semi-finals because we need the trophy more than Stars do,” said Arendse.
“They have done very well in the league and they are in form but I think this is our trophy and we have to win this game to make sure we still stand the chance of winning it at the end of the season.”
