Carlington Nyadombo cancelled out Ayanda Gcaba's header as Orlando Pirates drew 1-1 with AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The first chance of the match fell to Lucky Lekgwathi with just three minutes gone, the Captain managed to get on the end of Khethokwakhe Masuku's corner but failed to direct his header on target.
Andile Jali missed an opportunity to give his side the lead in the seventh minute, the midfielder linked up well with Oupa Manyisa and Kermit Erasmus, before shooting high and wide from the edge of the area.
Khethokwakhe Masuku was next to have a shot at goal just a minute later, the winger ran at the AmaZulu defence before cutting in from the left and firing just wide.
Another chance for Pirates in the 12th minute, as Erasmus beat his man on the left flank before cross to an unmarked Thandani Ntshumayelo, who could not keep his header down.
It was all Orlando Pirates in the opening exchanges, this time Kermit Erasmus' testing Aubrey Mathibe from the edge of the area but Usuthu's number one collected with ease.
Goodman Dlamini had AmaZulu's first effort in the 14th minute, after the midfielder managed to get beyond the Pirates defence, before firing a low shot which was comfortanly dealt with by Senzo Meyiwa.
Thamsanqa Teyise tried his luck from rang in the 20th minute, but the defender's effort went wide of the target.
Erasmus had another shot at goal in the 22nd minute, but the striker's free kick lacked the power to trouble Mathibe.
Goodman Dlamini nearly put Usuthu ahead in the 23rd minute with a driven shot from the edge of the box which struck the upright, following some good play by Bongani Ndulula.
The Bucanneers were on the attack again the 36th minute, this time Oupa Manyisa teeing Masuku, who blasted well over the bar.
Mathibe was called into action in the 41st minute to deny Masuku's first-time volley.
Mathibe proving to be the busier of the two keepers, this time tipping Masuku's shot over the bar in the 49th minute.
Ayanda Gcaba gave the Buccaneers the lead in the 56th minute, the defender rose highest to head home Aubrey Ngoma's corner.
Mathibe was it again in the 59th minute, as AmaZulu's number one did well cut out Happy Jele's cross, which was destined for Erasmus.
Carlington Nyadombo equalised for Usuthu in the 67th minute, the defender did well to lose his marker before heading home Marc Van Heerden's inch perfect cross.
Mathibe's busy night continued in the 71st minute, this time tipping over Masuku's stinging free kick.
Thabo Matlaba squandered a great chance to give his side the lead in the 83rd minute, the fullback managed to shoot wide with the goal at his mercy, after some great play by Ngoma.
Mathibe saving his side yet again, the shot-stopper did well to keep out Jele's low effort in the 87th minute.
Ayanda Gcaba came close to winning it for Pirates in the 93rd minute, as he fired his effort just over the bar.
