Johnson Happy With AmaZulu Despite Missed Chances

AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson was rather pleased with his side’s showing in their 0-0 draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night.

Usuthu missed a host of chances on the night, including a penalty that was saved by Itumeleng Khune in the second half.

Despite the missed the opportunities, Johnson was still pleased with Usuthu's display against the AmaKhosi.

“The rain, the referees, the field… I thought we put up a good performance," Johnson told SuperSport after the game.

“We should have done better in the opening half with our chances. In the first half I thought we had Chiefs against the wall. If you look at it I think we did score a goal. I think (Itumeleng) Khune took it from the by-line from Phumlani Gumede’s shot, but from where I stand it looks like it was from behind the goals. The goal was not given.

“I thought the boys did a really good job.

“The second half Chiefs had their chances and we had a few chances. We missed the penalty. It was not Rhulani Manzini’s day today. He normally puts them away, but it was unlucky.

“We are happy with the boys’ performance. We are building the team. We can see it is going somewhere. There is a lot of effort from the youngsters, those that haven’t played in the PSL yet. There is a lot of tenacity and ability to go forward and create chances for ourselves.

“Hopefully in better conditions and if we play the same way we can convert the chances we get.

“We are happy to go away with not a loss.”
