A Kaizer Chiefs-bound defender stole the show at the Stellenbosch FC awards, taking home two major awards.
The highly-rated centre-back walked away with the gong for the club’s Players’ Player of the Season and Footballer of The Season awards on Tuesday evening.
Zitha Kwinika, who is set to make a return to his boyhood club Chiefs as per the Siya crew sources, was head and shoulders above his peers this campaign at Stellies with his brilliant performances, making him a valuable asset for the Soweto giants.
The Glamour Boys won the race to land Kwinika, with several clubs in South Africa’s topflight also reported to be keen on the defender, who chose to return to the club that discovered his talent.
The 28-year-old Stellies star defender has played a vital role in the club’s fairy-tale run to fifth place on the DStv Premiership standings, with one game remaining against Cape Town City on Saturday.
Kwinika, formerly Macheke, has made 56 appearances for Stellies in the last two seasons and will bid farewell to the Men in Maroon in his final game for the club at the weekend.
The Soweto-born defender is re-joining the club where he started his career. He is a product of Chiefs development and was promoted to the first team in 2015.
However, Steve Komphela, who was at the helm in Naturena at the time, opted to loan the influential defender out to Chippa United before he penned a permanent deal with the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
