Mamelodi Sundowns captain, Alje Schut, says that his side doesn’t think they’re invincible, but admits that confidence is very high at present.
The Brazilians, who currently on top of the PSL and have won their last eight games in all competitions, take on Orlando Pirates this weekend as they attempt to make it into the Nedbank Cup semifinals.
Schut has played a vital role for Sundowns throughout the course of the season, and admits that he’s proud of his team for making it to the summit of the league table.
Speaking at today’s press conference, Schut said, “We’re taking things game by game, we don’t think that we can’t lose, but the confidence is very high. We’ve got a good squad, with everyone playing well, and that makes me really happy as a captain. I’m proud of my team.”
Also, when asked about Sundowns using their home advantage against Pirates, the Dutchman went on, “We beat Chiefs away, we beat Pirates away, so it’s nice that our fans can come in numbers to our back yard this time.”
Finally, Schut says that he’s happy to play in any defensive partnership, no matter who is alongside him. He concluded, “I feel comfortable with any player. I feel comfortable with Wayne (Arendse) and Rashid (Sumaila) too. Thabo is a very experienced player. He’s very calm on the ball, composed and doesn’t make mistakes. It’s really nice to play alongside him.”
Schut is expected to start in the centre of Sundowns’ defence when they host Pirates at 20h15 on Saturday night.
