Al Ahly beat out Orlando Pirates for the 2013 Club of the Year Award at the 22nd edition of the annual Glo CAF Awards held on Thursday night in Lagos, Nigeria.
Former Nigerian captain Sunday Oliseh and South African TV presenter Carol Tshabalala hosted the event, attended by many top dignitaries, with performances from musicians, acrobats and other entertainers, including South Africa’s Lira.
Orlando Pirates (South Africa), Al Ahly (Egypt) and CS Sfaxien (Tunisia) were the nominees.
Al Ahly were the CAF Champions League winners for the second year running, despite the Egyptian League being inactive.
CS Sfaxien, coached by former Pirates boss Ruud Krol were the CAF Confederations Cup winners.
Pirates had defied the odds by reaching the final of the CAF Champions League, beating the likes of TP Mazembe, Zamalek and eventual winners Al Ahly on the way there.
