Ajax Cape Town beat home team SuperSport United 2-1 in an ABSA Premiership clash at a wet Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday night.
Eleazar Rodgers and Aidan Jenniker scored for Ajax, while Sibusiso Zuma scored for SuperSport in a match played in very difficult conditions.
In the fourth minute Eleazar Rodgers had the ball in the net, but he was adjudged to have fouled Bevan Fransman, before he got his head to the ball.
In the ninth minute teenager Morne Nel tried a shot from the edge of the area, but it went straight to keeper Anssi Jaakkola.
Lebogang Manyama had an attempt in the 10th minute, but after doing well to get himself into a good position, he shot wide of goal.
Bennett Chenene tried a shot from just outside the box in the 16th minute but his shot went over the bar.
In the 36th minute Rowen Fernandez did well to stop Manyama from shooting as he slid in to parry the ball away from the Ajax striker. The ball fell to Toriq Losper, but his long range attempt went wide and over.
Two minutes later Rodgers gave Ajax the lead when he slid in to finish Manyama's square ball from close range, to make it 1-0, and that's how the score remained at half-time.
In the 48th minute substitute Sameegh Doutie set up David Mathebula just inside the box, but Mathebula's skied his shot over.
In the 55th minute Fernandez did well to get down to stop a Rodgers shot with his legs, after some good work by Keagan Dolly down the left.
A minute later former Ajax-man Doutie had a chance on the other end, but he couldn't get over the ball, and his header from an Innocent Mdledle cross flew high and wide.
In the 60th minute Jaakkola had to make two good saves in a row to keep Ajax in th lead, first getting one hand to a Doutie attempt, and then tipping over Mor Diouf's header from a corner.
In the 68th minute Doutie almost took advantage of the wet and windy conditions when he sent a long cross-come-shot from deep, and Jaakkola was unable to hold on, but the ball fell to Ritus Krjauklis who was able to clear.
Ajax were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute, after Bantu Mzwakali was brought down by Fransman, after the Ajax substitute had made a good run forward.
But Fernandez made a good save from Thulani Hlatshwayo's spot kick, to keep it 1-0.
Two minutes later Mzwakali tried to chip Fernandez as he broke away again, but the ball hit the crossbar, and bounced back into play.
In the 84th minute Aidan Jenniker, another Ajax substitute, did make it 2-0, as he took a shot from a tight angle and it beat Fernandez through his legs at the near post.
A minute later SuperSport were awarded a penalty after Dominic Isaacs was adjudged to have pushed substitute Sibusiso Zuma.
Zuma took the kick himself, and Jaakkola did well to make a diving save from the spot kick, but the ball fell back to Zuma who was able to finish and make it 2-1.
Fransman got a second yellow in the 91st minute, and SuperSport were reduced to ten men for the last couple of minutes.
